Pedro Mejia
The Colombian pianist Pedro Mejía has studied at renowned universities such as the National University of Colombia, under the guidance of Piedad Pérez and HelviaMendoza, at the Hochschule für Musik der Johannes Gutenberg Universität in Mainz, Germany, with the Argentine Maestro Oscar Vetre , and recently, he completed his doctorate in piano performance at the Frost School of Music, University of Miami in the class of Prof. Tian Ying. His doctoral thesis was dedicated to the life and piano work of the Colombo-Italian composer Mauricio Nasi Lignarolo (1949-2023).
Currently, in conjunction with his activity as a concert pianist, he is a full-time piano teacher at the Universidad del Atlántico in Barranquilla, Colombia, where he stands out for his academic production as a researcher for the Arte-Acción group, as he is developing a documentary about the life and work of Mauricio Nasi, as well as the recording and publication of his piano works.
Pedro has played several concertos for piano and orchestra under the baton of outstanding conductors and has won prizes and mentions in different competitions. His repertoire of chamber music and as a repeat pianist is extensive, as he has been invited to accompany several opera, strings and brass festivals. In addition to his piano studies, he has ventured into early music, performing works by Buxtehude, Benda, Frescobali, Rameau, among others, on the harpsichord.
