Arias-Esguerra
Pianist, composer and improviser Mauricio Arias-Esguerra has performed on different stages around the world, including the Festival di Spoleto (Italy) and Carnegie Hall in New York. He has published the albums ¡Colombia Viva! through the Toccata label. Vol. 1 (2021) and ¡Colombia Viva! Vol. 2 (2023), focused on contemporary Colombian music, which includes some of his compositions and improvisations. Also, together with trumpeter Randy Lee, he published the album “La trompeta camaleónica” (2019), where he appears as a composer and performer. Arias-Esguerra completed her undergraduate studies in piano at the Juan N. Corpas University Foundation alongside Polish professor Ludmiła Weber, and her doctoral studies at Arizona State University with Baruch Meir and Robert Hamilton.
As a pianist, he has been awarded in different piano competitions (Kinsgville Solo – 1st prize, Schmidbauer, Panama, Universidad Industrial de Santander – 1st prize, Federico Chopin National Competition – 1st prize). As a composer, different institutions have commissioned works from him: National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia, University of Florida Symphonic Band, Secretary of Education of Bogotá, Piano Teachers Congress of New York. In 2022 she premiered her song cycle “Rosas del mar”, celebrating the centenary of the Barranquilla poet Meira Delmar. Arias-Esguerra is a pianist and arranger for the Bogotá Piano Trio, with whom he recently recorded the complete chamber music of Antonio María Valencia for the Egea Latinoamérica label. He currently works as a full professor at the Universidad de los Andes, in Bogotá. Most of his scores are available through Filarmonika.com
