Harold Martina
Harold Martina. Director, pianist. He was born in Curacao, Netherlands Antilles in 1935. From a very young age he began studying piano and music with teachers Patrick and Teun Don. However, at the age of nine he made the decision to dispense with said studies, an attitude that he maintained until, in 1954, at the request of Professor Anna María Pennella, then at the Institute of Fine Arts of Medellín, he turned Due to his childhood decision, he abandoned the Chemical Engineering that he had come to this city to study, and dedicated himself entirely to the piano.
He married in 1958 and shortly after settled in Vienna at whose Academy of Music and under the direction of Professor Richard Hauser he obtained, four years later, the degree “Summa cum laude”, an honor that had not been granted for more than 15 years in said academy. He was director of the Conservatory of Music of the University of Antioquia in the period 1970-71. He was also a piano teacher at the same institution. In 1975 he was decorated by Queen Juliana of the Netherlands with the Order of Orange-Nassau and in 1990 he was elected as a national associate of arts in The National Committee of Honorary Membership of Sigma Alpha Iota, which is an international music fraternity. In 1985 he toured Germany with violinist Frank Preuss, and Japan with violinist Roni Rogoff.
Another successful tour was carried out through Europe with the Dutch Chamber Orchestra. He also toured several countries in Latin America, Europe and the United States, always with extraordinary critical and public success. He is a professor at the Texas School of Music at Fort Worth Christian University, where he has also performed as a guest pianist.
