Inscriptions

1. The registration process is unique per person and cannot be done twice.

2. The registration deadline is May 3, 2024 at 12:00 pm Colombia time (GMT-5).

3. Link: Registration is done through the link provided and found on the contest website. The required documents must be uploaded as single files in the online form.

4. Required documents:

 

  • Artistic resume in PDF format.

  • Artistic resume supports (e.g.: relevant competitions and events in which you have participated, such as diplomas, certificates, among others) in PDF format.

  • Scanned copy of the passport and identity document of the contestant's country of origin in PDF format.

  • Sheet music of the free-choice works in PDF format.

  • Letter of recommendation from the last or current teacher, in PDF format (optional).

  • You must send the link to the pre-selection video as follows: Repertoire of 15 to 20 minutes, a single recent video (maximum 6 months), configured for access by the organization during the call period and must not be deleted during said period. time. The recording must have a fixed camera without edits, be performed from memory, with excellent image and audio quality, showing the performer preferably in full body and focusing on the hands. The video must be uploaded to YouTube and marked as follows:

Note: You must check that the video has access allowed for the contest. The contest is not responsible for technical difficulties with the file.

 

The Pre-Selection Jury will carry out the pre-selection of the 20 pianists who advance to the in-person stage, considering the following criteria in order of greatest to least relevance:

 

  • Evaluation of the videos presented.

  • Analysis of the resume and supports.

  • Review of the recommendations received. 

Registration conditions

1. We invite pianists of all nationalities, born between October 29, 1989 and May 1, 2006, who have the migratory possibility of attending the event in Colombia – South America.

2. The admission process will be carried out by the Pre-selection Jury, who will review the registration form, the registration video, the artistic resume and the supports presented.

3. Winners of other international competitions and pianists with a relevant artistic career may be directly admitted, after evaluation by the Pre-Selection Jury, who will have full discretion in their decision. 

4. Registration will cost $125 USD, tax free. The value must be transferred to the bank account:

5. The registration fee is not refundable or transferable.

6. The registration period will be open from December 4, 2023 to May 3, 2024.

7. Nature of the contest and non-remuneration: This contest is of an artistic and academic nature given the quality of the ORGANIZER's Higher Education Institution and involves participation in activities autonomously and independently by THE PARTICIPANT on the occasion of the contest, without obtaining remuneration or fees in exchange. Therefore, it is stated that between the parties there does not exist nor has there existed for the development of the contest any type of employment relationship or provision of services. However, in the event that THE PARTICIPANT becomes the winner of the contest, he or she will have the right to have THE ORGANIZATION deliver the prize(s) previously defined in the contest mechanics.

8. Suspension Due to Force Majeure: If the development of the CONTEST is interrupted or materially interfered with due to, among others, an earthquake or other natural event, government action, pandemics, epidemics, disturbances in public order, labor dispute, death, disability of key talent or another event beyond the control of the organizer (any event of this type “Force Majeure Event”), THE ORGANIZER will have the right to suspend the contest without the need for any notice period, with only notification being necessary, during the period (or by any part of the period) of the force majeure event in the event that the force majeure event lasts for a time that makes the continuation of the CONTEST impossible or makes it very onerous. Neither THE ORGANIZER neither THE PARTICIPANT will be responsible for any eventuality of non-compliance caused by a Force Majeure Event.

9. Affiliation with the Comprehensive Social Security System. The management and costs of membership THE PARTICIPANT to the general social security system provided for in Law 100 of 1993, in health and to other entities that the law requires or will require, are the exclusive responsibility of the COMPETITOR.

10. By registering, participants accept all the bases contained in this document.

Competition stages

Qualification stage

1. Pre-selection (online):
In this phase, the videos and documentation sent with the registration form are evaluated. 

2. All people who have registered for the call participate.

3. The preselection jury will check that they have met all registration requirements, evaluate the videos and vote to determine who advances to the in-person phase.

In-person stage of the competition

1. Quarterfinals:


This initial round will take place in the Alberto Castilla Hall of the Tolima Conservatory, a University Institution of Public Higher Education located in the city of Ibagué, department of Tolima, Colombia.


1. 20 contestants participate, and each one performs a repertoire lasting 50 to 55 minutes.

2. The concerts are not open to the public, but will be attended by piano students.

3. The order of participation is made by draw and is notified upon the participants' arrival in the city and that order is maintained throughout the development of all rounds.

4. In this round, all participants present the mandatory work that will be sent to those classified three (03) months in advance.


2. Semifinal:

1. 8 contestants will participate, and their repertoire will include a work by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with orchestra.

2. The repertoire is mandatory and selected from the list of options (see repertoire).

3. Each participant has a rehearsal with an orchestra and the possibility of meeting with the director beforehand.


3. Grand Finale:

The third round or grand final will take place in one day in person at the Alberto Castilla Hall. 

1. The 3 finalist contestants will participate and perform a romantic piano concerto chosen from the established list.

2. Each participant has a rehearsal with an orchestra and the possibility of meeting with the director beforehand.


Artistic and academic activities within the framework of the contest


1. Master Classes:

As part of the competition, master classes led by the competition's juries will be held. These academic spaces represent a valuable benefit to the community, both for active students and observers interested in piano learning. Each workshop leader will offer a three (3) hour class with a break, attending to a group of 7 pianists. Of them, one will be a student at the Tolima Conservatory, while the other six will be selected by the competition committee, considering the following guidelines:


1. Not being an active participant in the contest.

2. Be of Colombian nationality.

3. Have a prepared repertoire.

4. There will be two places per class for pianists who have not qualified for the in-person phase, but who wish to attend and enrich their experience, upon confirmation of attendance.

5. Registration will be made with limited places and will close when the places are met. For this registration the applicant must comply with the terms of reference that will be published on the contest page and if they do not comply with these conditions the place will be passed. to the next registrant.

6. Opening Concert: The official opening of the competition will take place on October 12, 2024 at the Tolima Conservatory. During this event, the competition will begin and the presence of talented pianists from different parts of the world will be celebrated.


2. Awards and Closing Ceremony:

The culmination of the competition will take place on October 25, 2024 at the Tolima Conservatory. At this ceremony, the winners will be announced and the talent and efforts of the outstanding participants will be recognized.

List of works

Note: The repertoire presented does not include repetitions and cannot exceed the time designated for each round. 

Duration of 15 to 20 minutes and must include:

 

1. A (01) Prelude and Fugue by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750).

2. One (01) movement from a classical Sonata:

  • Joseph Haydn (1732-1809).
  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791).
  • Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827).

3. One (01) study of one of the following composers:

  • Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849).
  • Franz Liszt (1811-1886).
  • Alexander Skriabin (1872-1915).
  • Sergei Rachmaninov (1873-1943).
  • Claude Debussy (1862-1918).

Duration of 50 to 55 minutes and must include:

 

1. Mandatory work: This is an exclusive composition for the competition, performed by the Colombian composer Amparo Ángel and must be presented from memory. Duration: 5 to 6 minutes.

 

2. One (01) Complete Classical Sonata: This must be different from the one presented in the pre-selection repertoire and can be by one of the following composers: 

    1. Joseph Haydn (1732-1809).
    2. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791).
    3. Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827).
    4. Franz Schubert (1797-1828).

3. One (01) work of Romanticism.

4. One (01) work of free choice: Own compositions are not allowed.

For this round you must select one of the following Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) concert options:

 

  1. Piano Concerto No. 9, in E flat major, K. 271.
  2. Concerto for piano and orchestra No. 20 in D minor, K. 466.
  3. Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, K. 467.
  4. Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major, K. 488.
  5. Concerto for piano and orchestra No. 24 in C minor, K. 491.
  6. Piano Concerto No. 27 in B flat major, K. 595.

For this round you must select one of the following Romantic concert options:

 

1. Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Op. 11 – Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849).

 

2. Piano Concerto No. 2 Op. 18 in C minor – Sergei Rachmaninov (1873-1943).

 

3. Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 1 in D minor, Op. 15 – Johannes Brahms (1833-1897).

 

4. Piano Concerto No. 2 in B flat major, Op. 83 – Johannes Brahms (1833-1897).

 

5. Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor, Op. 37 – Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827).

 

6. Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major, Op. 58 – Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827).

 

7. Piano Concerto No. 5 in E flat major, Op. 73 – Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827).

 

8. Piano Concerto No. 3 in C major, Op. 26 – Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953).

 

9. Piano Concerto No. 1 in B flat minor, Op. 23 – Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893).

 

10. Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16 – Edvard Grieg (1843-1907).

 

11. Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 54 – Robert Schumann (1810-1856).

Contestants accept, by sending the registration form, that they grant an unlimited, exclusive and irrevocable license over any and all intellectual property rights of any nature that the Contestant has over their performances, interpretations or executions, recordings thereof, and any musical or literary work written or co-written by the Contestant, existing on the Effective Date for exploitation throughout the world, including but not limited to:

 

  1. Image rights: Participants assign the rights to their image to the contest, allowing its use in promotional material, publications, and media related to the event. This includes photographs and videos taken during all stages of the competition.

Recording rights: Contestants authorize the recording of their performances during all phases of the contest, including in-person and online rounds. These recordings may be used for academic purposes of evaluation, archiving, promotion and cultural dissemination, both during and after the event, without any compensation.

 

Reproduction rights: Participants allow the reproduction of their musical performances, either in their entirety or in fragments, in different formats, platforms and media. This reproduction can be carried out both in person and online, by any means known or yet to be known. 

 

Transmission rights: Contestants grant the contest the right to broadcast live or delayed all rounds and activities of the event through digital media, radio, television or other media, known or to be known locally, nationally or internationally. 

 

Re-recording rights: The contestants authorize the organization to make re-recordings of the presentations made during the contest.

 

Other related rights: In addition to the rights mentioned above, participants authorize the use of their name, biography, and other relevant data for the purposes of promotion, dissemination and public recognition in relation to the contest.

 

  1. The transfer of rights described in this section is carried out with the objective of ensuring the correct development of the contest, as well as to promote and disseminate artistic, academic and cultural activities related to the event. 
  2. The Tolima Conservatory is committed to using these rights in an ethical and professional manner, respecting at all times the integrity and interests of the participants.

Paragraph: PROHIBITION OF DELEGATION: It is understood that the subscription as a participant in the contest has been made in attention to the artistic qualities of THE PARTICIPANT. Therefore, the delegation of his participation or of any or some of the activities that have been entrusted to him in the contest is prohibited unless there is express authorization from the ORGANIZER.

Juries

1. The jury is made up of excellent musicians of high prestige in the academic field and has international members of different nationalities.

2. The Pre-Selection Jury is made up of nationally renowned pianists and two members of the organizing entity, the Tolima Conservatory, who are outstanding professional pianists in the academic field.

3. A sixth member of the jury acts as president of the Jury, directing the group, acting as moderator, but without voting in the rounds, except in cases of a tie.

4. The jury has the responsibility of deciding which contestants advance to each phase of the competition and assigning the corresponding prizes, with full discretion.

5. The decisions of the Jury and the Pre-Selection Jury will not be objectionable.

6. In the event that a student or family member of a member of the jury or the Pre-Selection Jury participates in the contest, said person will refrain from voting for the contestant or offering their opinion regarding it to other members of the jury.

7. The jurors may be replaced in situations of force majeure or at the discretion of the competition organization.

8. Voting is carried out by counting votes for and against each participant. Each jury votes whether or not the participant advances to the next round, and the votes are subsequently counted. 

9. The jury is not allowed to discuss the participants, their vote is final and is subject to the criteria of each jury.

10. The contestants will only be discussed when there are ties.

11. After the pre-selection, the list of the 20 participants selected for the in-person phase will be published and a waiting list will be formed with the next 10 classified on the list.

PARAGRAPH: The value in dollars contemplated in this chapter will be transferred to Colombian pesos in accordance with the representative market rate of the day on which the effective payment is made, in accordance with the applicable regulations, especially taking into account withholdings and taxes. for there to be room.

THE PARTICIPANT authorizes THE ORGANIZER, in its capacity as data controller and the natural and legal persons who hold the capacity of data processors, to process your personal data, which includes the capture, collection, collection, storage, updating, use, circulation, processing, transmission, transfer, disposal and deletion thereof.

THE PARTICIPANT certifies that the personal data provided to the ORGANIZER, are true, complete, accurate, up-to-date, real and verifiable. Therefore, any error in the information provided will be your sole responsibility, which exonerates To the ORGANIZER, as the person responsible and its allies who act as those in charge, of any responsibility before the judicial and/or administrative authorities, especially before the authority for the protection of personal data.
